Jennie Finch is widely considered the most famous softball player of all time as her skill level, accomplishments, and even her beauty have played significant roles in contributing to her global popularity. Jennie Finch is an excellent role model for young girls aspiring to be standout athletes.
Born in September of 1980 Finch would eventually go on to become a three time All-American at the University of Arizona in Tucson and an Olympic gold medalist. Before becoming the most famous softball player of all time Finch excelled in sports at La Mirada High School on the eastern border of Los Angeles County. As a prep athlete Jennie played varsity basketball and volleyball in addition to softball. As a standout high school softball player Finch developed an arsenal of seven different pitches to deceive batters. Today, as a member of the United States national team her repertoire still consists of the same seven pitches which are: riseball, curveball, fastball, dropball, changeup, screwball, and four seam.
Finch left Los Angeles County to attend college in Tucson, AZ where she became a dominant player for a storied softball program at the University of Arizona. During her four years of college she accumulated a total of 119 wins which ranked her twelfth on the all-time list in the NCAA record books at the time of her graduation.
In the 2004 Olympics in Sydney, Australia Finch helped the United States team dominate the competition and cruise to a gold medal. In many respects this international performance really launched her fame to new level that had not been previously experienced while playing for the Arizona Wildcats. In the years following the Sydney Olympics Jennie branched off into other pockets of fame by winning an ESPN online poll as the most attractive female athlete and later modeling for the 2005-2006 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue.
Since acquiring her much deserved fame Jennie has appeared with some regularity on various television programs promoting softball. In a move indicative of her strong sense of character Finch turned down an offer to appear nude in Playboy magazine in exchange for a sizable amount of money. After turning down the lucrative offer Finch reported to the media that she would “rather be a role model for young girls.”
Finch has been less of a presence in the media as of late while she has instead decided to focus on her young family. Finch was married to baseball pitcher Casey Daigle in January of 2005 and the couple had their first child together (a son) on May 4, 2006.
Sam, the author of this article, understands that Jennie is very proud of her accomplishments with the Arizona Wildcats and was honored to have her jersey retired by the school in May of 2003. Despite her fame she is true to her roots and has been rumored to be spotted wearing University of Arizona slippers when running errands and taking care of her family. Appropriate for her fun loving personality the University of Arizona Wildcats slippers she wears are normally fun and cute.
